Devops Engineer at GFI Software, Los Angeles

The GFI MAX business develops and delivers hosted software solutions for IT support companies and managed services providers. The two main product lines are the Remote Monitoring and Management system and the hosted email security service. Both of these services are SaaS offerings that run 24*7 and service thousands of customers worldwide. The deployment platform is Linux-based servers utilizing MySQL databases and PHP and Java application environments. It is critical to the success of the business that these services are available, secure and performant.  At present, systems administration, code deployment and infrastructure engineering are handled by members of the product engineering team and we now need to add experienced and talented devops engineers to take responsibility for these activities, working closely with development staff and bringing knowledge and expertise in high-volume, mission-critical applications. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high performance, stable systems that can underpin the achievement of our ambitious business growth targets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in product delivery projects working closely with development and test staff on delivering low latency, high performance applications
• Plan, manage and provide systems infrastructure and application support
• Responsible for availability, security and performance of all operational systems supporting GFI MAX services
• Develop and/or implement robust deployment procedures for application code
• Analyze operational systems characteristics and behaviour, identify opportunities for improvement, and research and implement solutions
• Develop, implement and test robust disaster recovery procedures
• Produce configuration / installation instructions and documentation for use by Systems Engineering and Technical Support staff
• Manage the architecture and design of the company’s operational systems
• Ensure accurate change control and configuration management of systems

Education / Experience

• LAMP and Java application and Linux/Unix operating system support for 24×7 business completely dependent on its operational platform.
• Apache web farms running high-volume database-driven applications – ideally RHCE qualified
• Excellent TCP/IP networking experience and understanding
• Strong MySQL experience including database tuning, high availability, replication and optimization
• Understanding of load balancing principles and algorithms and approaches to scaling out of systems, dynamic capacity allocation and throughput optimization
• Experience with tools for automation of deployment, monitoring and management of systems
• Scripting and systems-related programming skills
• VMware virtualization
• System design documentation
• Network, OS and Application monitoring tools.
• Incident and other reporting including system specification and recommendations
